Media Credentials
Credential Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY
The San Diego Open will issue media credentials to members of the working press. A “member of the working press” is defined as a paid employee or authorized representative of a known and established media organization. A “media organization” includes any entity engaged in disseminating information to the general public through newspapers, magazines, digital publications, radio, television, or other recognized mass-communication platforms.
Credentials will not be issued to clubs, teams, agents, player representatives, personal photographers/videographers shooting on behalf of an individual player, or coaches.
Being credentialed for previous San Diego Open events or other professional, collegiate, Olympic, or international competitions does not guarantee approval for this year’s tournament.
All applicants must be on assignment for a reputable media organization that has a demonstrated record of covering professional tennis or major sporting events.
Photographers and videographers must submit a letter of assignment from their outlet.
Content creators / influencers must submit a brief content plan outlining intended coverage and distribution channels.
Freelance journalists may be asked to provide a letter of assignment upon request.
On a case-by-case basis, the San Diego Open may consider credential requests from independent digital media representatives if space allows and after established outlets have been accommodated.
All journalists wishing to attend the San Diego Open must submit a credential application. By applying, journalists and editors acknowledge they have read and agree to these eligibility guidelines and the San Diego Open’s tournament broadcast and content restrictions. Media organizations may request more than one credential; however, the San Diego Open reserves the right to limit credential allocations at its sole discretion. Submission of an application does not guarantee approval.
APPLICATION DEADLINES
Credential applications must be received by the published deadline. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed only if space remains available. Late submissions are not guaranteed accommodation.
Submitting an application does not guarantee a credential. Media space is limited and credentials are issued on a per-event basis.
CREDENTIAL ACCEPTANCE
The San Diego Open welcomes media coverage. If the number of requests exceeds capacity, approvals will be based on the following criteria, in order of priority:
Media organizations with a large national or international audience
Local and regional media based in San Diego County
Outlets with a consistent record of covering the San Diego Open and/or professional tennis
Tennis-specific or sport specialty media
Independent online representatives / content creators
CREDENTIAL USAGE
Credential Use Conditions
Credentials must be worn and visible at all times while in credentialed areas. Credentials are issued specifically to the approved individual and may not be transferred, shared, sold, or loaned to another person for any reason. Violations may result in credential revocation for all parties involved and possible loss of credential privileges for future San Diego Open events.
Credentialed media receive admission to the tournament only. No additional access to restricted or special areas is provided. Misuse of credentials will result in immediate revocation of access and removal from the venue.
PHOTOGRAPHERS / VIDEOGRAPHERS
Photographers and videographers must be on assignment from an established media organization and use professional equipment. Approved photo/video media may be required to attend a mandatory on-site briefing, as communicated by the San Diego Open communications staff prior to the event.
All photo and video content captured at the San Diego Open is for non-commercial editorial use only by the outlet for which the individual is credentialed. Content may not be sold, licensed for commercial use, or distributed for promotional/advertising purposes without written approval from the San Diego Open.
If a photographer/videographer is working on behalf of multiple outlets, all outlets must be disclosed in the application.
Failure to adhere to these policies may result in immediate credential revocation and loss of credential privileges for future San Diego Open tournaments for both the individual and their associated outlet.
