Men’s Top Seed Sebastian Korda to Play Third Match on Stadium Court on Wednesday
SAN DIEGO – (January 27, 2026) – Americans made a strong showing in the final round of singles qualifying on Tuesday at Barnes Tennis Center as they won matches to advance to the main draw of the 2026 Better Buzz Coffee San Diego Open.
Felix Corwin and fellow Americans Evan Zhu, Stefan Dostanic and Karl Poling all won straight-set matches to move into the men's singles main draw. Bor Artnak of Slovenia and Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski of Poland also reached the main draw with three-set victories.
Americans Ava Markham, Kylie Collins and Jo-Yee Chan each captured straight-set wins to advance to the women’s singles main draw. Other qualifiers moving into the main draw include Ema Burgic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kristina Liutova of Russia, Ella McDonald of Great Britain, Lina Glushko of Israel and Gina Feistel of Poland.
One American who fell short of qualifying for the singles main draw was rising tennis star Ryan Seggerman. The 26-year-old San Diego native who lives in nearby Coronado, fell to Dostanic 6-0, 6-4 in 56 minutes earlier today.
“Obviously, I’m disappointed. He (Dostanic) played great in the first set. He took the racquet out of my hand for most of it. The second set I got my serve going a little bit better. I had to find ways for him to miss the ball,” Seggerman said. “I fought well to get up a break in the second at 4-2, but my serve got away from me. I just didn’t capitalize on the chances I had there at the end.”
Seggerman, who played collegiate tennis at Princeton University and University of North Carolina, has made a steady climb up the ATP doubles rankings where he sits at No. 68 after reaching a career-high No. 63 last September.
“It’s very nice to be back (home). I was in Australia last week, so it was kind of a win/win. If I fell out at Melbourne early, I could come back and play this. If I couldn’t, it would mean that I was doing well over there. It was nice to know that this week was going to be positive either way,” said Seggerman.
“They have done a great job with this event. I didn’t get to play last year, but I’m very happy to have the chance to play this one,” he added.
Seggerman will team with Australian Calum Puttergill in the men’s doubles competition. They are set to face the Great Britain team of Scott Duncan and James Mackinlay in a first-round match on Wednesday.
First-round main draw matches also got underway on Tuesday. Louisa Chirico of the United States, the women’s singles top-seed, began her quest for the ITF W100 title as she eliminated Italy's Anastasia Abbagnato 6-4, 7-6 (4) in one-hour and 33 minutes.
In men’s first-round main draw action, San Diego's Trevor Svajda defeated fellow American Micah Braswell 6-2, 6-2 in 74 minutes earlier in the day on Stadium Court.
Tournament officials announced that men’s top seed Sebastian Korda will play his first round singles match on Wednesday against compatriot Daniel Milavsky. They will play the third match on Stadium Court.
Matches will begin at 10 a.m., through Friday, January 30, and at noon on Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1. Gates at Barnes Tennis Center will open one hour before the first match each day.
